Dubrovnik has received a considerable boost in tourism for this otherwise quiet period owing to several factors, including Nissan’s Micra presentation and the filming and preparations for Robin Hood: Origins.
It seems to be good news all round for Dubrovnik as official figures for the first month of the year 2017 are released. As The Dubrovnik Times reported on the 3rd of February, figures show that in January, an impressive 11,657 tourists arrived in Dubrovnik. They were recorded to be mainly from other European countries such as the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Albania, Germany and of course Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also from third countries such as Korea and the United States.
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board stated that the hosting of the Robin Hood: Origins film crew who are in the midst of preparation in the city, as well as Nissan’s presentation of the new Micra has given numbers an extra boost in this otherwise very quiet time of year.
There is an on-going issue with Dubrovnik being classed as a summer only destination and not a city break, and in reality it should be the latter. The increasingly popular Dubrovnik Winter Festival and its numerous events have given rise to more tourism in the area following the end of the summer season, but the onus is on flight companies to alter their view of Dubrovnik. Currently, direct, year-round flights operate from London, Istanbul and Frankfurt.
Let’s hope that these encouraging figures from 2017’s maiden month and the gradual extension of the summer season in Dubrovnik will see more and more hotels inclined to keep their doors open for longer.
