August the 12th, 2026 – June saw a drop in overnight stays in Croatian commercial accommodation recorded, with Istria County outperforming the rest of the country.
A mixed picture could be garnered when looking at overnight stays realised in Croatian commercial accommodation facilities in June this year. Jutarnji reports that a total of 3.0 million tourist arrivals and 13.5 million overnight stays were recorded. Compared to June 2025, tourist arrivals were down by 6.6% and overnight stays by 6.1%, according to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

Of the total overnight stays realised, domestic tourists accounted for 8.9% and foreign tourists for 91.1%. Domestic tourists recorded 387 thousand arrivals and 1.2 million overnight stays, which is 11.8% more arrivals and 11.7% more overnight stays than back in June 2025. Foreign tourists recorded 2.6 million arrivals and 12.3 million overnight stays, which is 8.9% fewer arrivals and 7.5% fewer overnight stays than back in June 2025.
The highest number of overnight stays realised by foreign tourists in June 2026 was achieved by tourists from Germany, totalling 2.7 million overnight stays, or 22.1% of all foreign overnight stays. Compared to June 2025, their overnight stays were down by 28.1%. On average, they recorded 7.7 overnight stays per arrival.
After German tourists, the largest shares of foreign overnight stays were held by tourists from Austria (10.3%), Slovenia (9.9%), Poland (8.8%), the Czech Republic (6.6%), the United Kingdom (5.3%) and Italy (3.8%). Compared to June 2025, increases in overnight stays were recorded by tourists from Italy (5.0%), Slovenia (3.9%), Poland (3.2%), the Czech Republic (2.4%) and the United Kingdom (1.2%), while tourists from Austria had 6.0% fewer overnight stays.

In June 2026, Istria County once again recorded the highest number of overnight stays in the country, totalling 4.3 million, or 31.9% of all overnight stays in Croatia. Despite being the county with the most tourist overnight stays, overnight stays in Istria County fell by 10.0% compared to June 2025. Domestic tourists in Istria County recorded 219 thousand overnight stays (15.9% more than in June 2025), while foreign tourists recorded 4.1 million overnight stays (down 11.1% from the previous year’s June).
After Istria County came Split-Dalmatia County with 2.7 million overnight stays (20.0% of the Croatian total) and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County with 2.2 million (16.4%). Compared to June 2025, overnight stays were down 7.5% in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and 1.7% in Split-Dalmatia County.
In June 2026, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded by tourists in two age groups: those under 14 years of age and those between 55 and 64 years of age. Each of these groups recorded 2.2 million overnight stays, accounting for 16.2% of the total.
