Currency

The official currency in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Bosnia and Herzegovina convertible mark (konvertibilna marka). It is divided into 100 pfenigs or fenings (pf) and locally abbreviated as KM, although the official acronym in economy is BAM and it has been the official currency since 1998.
It was pegged at par to the German mark and 1 EUR = 1.95583 BAM.

The banknotes have distinct designs for the entities of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska. On the notes of the Republika Srpska, inscriptions are printed in Cyrillic, then Latin script, and vice versa, but both versions are valid and acceptable in all parts of the country.

In addition to convertible marks, most souvenir shops, restaurants and hotels in Medjugorje accept euros and Croatian kunas. Some of the other places that you visit in Bosnia and Herzegovina might not accept other currencies, so it’s advisable to exchange your money beforehand.
