There are de facto three official languages in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian, but they are all mutually intelligible.
Most people in Medjugorje speak Croatian, but, due to the town’s popularity as an international tourist destination, most people at restaurants, hotels and shops also speak other languages, most frequently English, Italian and German. Names of shops and other establishments are sometimes written in English and Italian as well.
There are daily masses in various languages:
- Croatian 7.30 a.m. daily (Saturday also at 1 p.m.)
8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sundays - East European 8 a.m. daily
7 a.m. on Sundays - German 9 a.m. daily (and Sundays)
- English 10 a.m. daily
12 p.m. on Sundays - Italian 11 a.m. daily
10 a.m. on Sundays - French 12 noon daily
1 p.m. on Sundays
