Earlier today, Istramet issued a warning about a gigantic supercell that formed over Italy and started to move towards Istria.
The storm reached the region in the early afternoon hours; the western coast of Istria was covered by thick dark clouds, wind growing stronger by the minute. A threatening shelf cloud formed over Poreč:
The storm caused numerous troubles at sea, as the waves grew up to 2 metres in height, putting the boats at the open sea in grave danger. More than 10 boats located in the waters between Poreč and Umag sent out calls for help. Sources say damages were reported on multiple vessels at berth in the ports of the western Istrian coast.
Trees were knocked down by tempestuous wind in the central part of the Istrian peninsula and on Kvarner. The storm is currently on its way to Karlovac and Zagreb.
