Croatian Football Federation Declines Hajduk’s Request for Foreign Referees

Now there’s a surprise

Refereeing comitee of the Croatian Football Federation has issued a statement on March, 9. 2016, refusing to include foreign referees in semifinal Cup matches to be played next week. That not being a big surprise, as one should search pretty far in the history books to find some proposal made by Hajduk that was accepted by Croatian Football Federation.

In the announcement, CFF states that mistakes made by the referees were unintentional, and are common in other football leagues. They claim they were all human errors and were dealt with accordingly. They also listed some mistakes and decisions from the Refereeing comitee sanctioning referees for those mistakes.

Today’s statement was concluded with a cynical sentence: “In cup matches played, and two league rounds taken into consideration, the level of refereeing was satisfactory”. Cynical because it clashes with the list of mistakes included in this very same announcement, and especially with numerous appeals from Hajduk, and lately even Rijeka, club that kept unusually quiet on a subject until this week.
