Here in Croatia, we are used to hearing about problems in agriculture, lack of competitiveness and the ever growing import of food, so when a domestic company manages to export more than half of its entire production, it’s a reason to write about it.
As reported by HRT on March 19, 2016, Luneta d.o.o. from Ludbreg turned to alternative production in order to secure sales on the international market and judging by their results they were not wrong. Instead of the caged chicken farming they opted for free range; their very chirpy hens are running free through the state of the art hen houses.
Owned by family Čurila, Luneta produces more than 14 million eggs a year and their quality standards are exceptionally high. They have the ISO and IFS certificates as well as the German KAT certificate which is awarded for alternative systems of keeping laying hens. One of the alternative ways of keeping hens that implies that hens are not in cages is barn system which is implemented in Luneta d.o.o.
Their hens lay more than 14 000 eggs a day and more than half of it is exported to EU member states. Eggs are packed without human contact, guaranteeing hygienically safe products. However, this success did not come overnight. In order to meet the highest quality standards, family Čurila invested 20 million kunas into their farm, after they secured a grant from the EU IPARD program.
