Warm up for the holiday season in Zagreb with a reminder of last year’s Best European Christmas Market
As we’re waiting for Christmas lights in Zrinjevac park to officially open the holiday season, here’s a small reminder of last year’s Christmas market in Zagreb from one of the best possible viewpoints: at night, from above.
A visitor named Benedict Yuen came out with a lovely video of the city centre aglow with lights in December 2016, a couple of days before we rang in the new year. The Christmas market is usually experienced from a very grounded perspective – squirming your way through the crowd, warming your hands on a hot cup of mulled wine. Seeing the entire fair from above leaves an entirely different impression – a somewhat magical one, with the heart of Zagreb enveloped in lights and dotted with smiling faces that pop up throughout the video.
Even though the programme has been somewhat modified this year (quality over quantity, supposedly), we can still look forward to meeting our friends at the same cult locations that made Zagreb a two-time winner of the Best European Christmas Market title.
