From abnormally hot to drastically cooler as bura cools things off in Dalmatia.
Recently, the unusually warm Adriatic sea temperatures were widely reported in the Croatian media, and owing to the arrival of a little bura, things have taken quite an opposite turn.
As Morski writes on the 16th of June, 2018, unlike over the previous few days, there were no afternoon thunderous rains on Friday in the Šibenik region. The mostly sunny day was marked by a mostly weak to moderate bura, which was only considered to be particularly stormy in some parts of Dalmatia. In stark contrast to the calm and warm weather that had come before it, the Velebit channel was hit by bura with a strength of over 120 kmh.
The bura has significantly cooled the sea in the Šibenik region, and a specialised satellite discovered that the same phenomenon had occurred along the entire Velebit channel. In Šibenik yesterday, the sea was 25°C, and today that number has dropped to a mere 17°C, Dalmacija Danas writes.
The bura in the area is naturally responsible for such a drastic chilling of the surface of the sea in the wider Šibenik area, with general prediction of even stronger bura on its way next week, the sea will be slightly cooler anyway. It has been reported that this is a somewhat common phenomenon and that despite such occurrences, the situation is usually very quick to normalise.
