Drivers Beware: New Temporary Traffic Regulations In Effect from Today

Driving in Split today? If so, take note.

A new traffic regulation begins today through Krajla Zvonimira Street in Split. Namely, the City of Split, the Police, the Croatian Roads, the Port Authority, Promet and others who participated in this decision, hope to prevent traffic created at the ferry port, reports Dalmacija Danas on August 9, 2018.

The trade union of Croatian drivers (SHV) for “Promet” does not trust City Administration’s optimistic announcements that this move will lessen the crowds in the city – and they’re not sure why there is any optimism at all.

“We are not sure whether they are aware that they will send an additional 350 Promet buses to the ferry port every day, and if they considered if the ferry port could even handle it, which is already at a collapse every day,” said Marijo Jukić, chief commissioner of SHV for “Promet”.

Among other things, he said that they are not sure if they are aware of the new problems that will occur in parallel, and that such a regulation will disrupt the driving routines as it will prolong rides at every bus departure, meaning additional departures for which “Promet” has no buses, and drivers, in particular.

“Crowds cannot be solved with ‘ad hoc’ solutions in the middle of the tourist season, but by serious reflection and ensuring legitimacy throughout the year,” they added.

Their request was answered by the Deputy Mayor of Split, Nino Vela, claiming that it is only a temporary solution that will be in force today, and by the end of the day, they will know whether the new regime can be maintained.
