Vinko Coce was born on December 22, 1954. He made his first musical steps already at the age of thirteen, and at fifteen he performed as a tenor in the vocal quintet Mali kanti. A trademark of Trogir has always been the klapa, and for years Coce worked with the cult group Klapa Trogir which set the stone foundations for klapa music, along with Klapa Šibenik and Klapa Lučica, reports Dalmacija News on October 27, 2018.

Some of his greatest awards were the Grand Prix of the Split Festival in 1993 for his interpretation of the song “Sićaš li se, Lungomare”, while together with Klapa Trogir in 1998, he won the Porin for ‘Best Album of Folklore Music’.

Vinko Coce played to a packed Poljud stadium in 2008
The peak of his impressive career was the great concert “Vinko Coce and Friends” on August 31, 2008, in front of a full Poljud stadium, as part of the klapa spectacle “Ne damo te pismo naša”. The concert was recorded on CD/DVD as one of the largest and most impressive concerts in Croatia.

Vinko Coce passed away on October 27, 2013
Unfortunately, the end of Vinko’s journey was on October 27, 2013, when he died after a months-long battle of high blood pressure and diabetes. More than ten thousand people attended the singer’s funeral. Numerous musicians said goodbye to their friend and colleague, and praised the celebrated singer for his incredible influence.

Vinko Coce was a highly respected tenor in the region and one of the greatest singers of Croatia history, which was also confirmed by the Porin for his lifestyle achievements, received in 2014 shortly after his death. In his honor, his friends sang many powerful and emotional songs which included “Vidi li se šta odozgar” by Tedi Spalato, written by Nenad Ninčević, the writer of many of Coce’s hits.
