Sinj becomes a city of Croatian science stars, transforming the town into all things ‘science’ for a week. This week, help us welcome back the Festival of Science in Sinj for 2017!

The Festival of Science will be held in Sinj from October 16 to 21, 2017, under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia and with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education. The guests in attendance, known as some of the top scientists in the world, include I. Đikić, G. Paić, T. Prokopec , J. Faričić, R. Matasović, L. Forro, T. Žakula, N. Raos, B. Salopek-Sondi, I. Sondi, A. Radonić, K. Vlahoviček, O. Polašek and T. Portada, reports Dalmacija Danas on October 13, 2017.

The festive opening ceremony will take place on Monday, October 16, 2017, at 17:30 pm in the Alkar Court. The festival will be opened by the Chairperson of the Presidency, Renata Margaretić Urlić.

After the lectures of Ivan Đikić and Guya Paić, a round table on curricular reform will be held, which will be discussed by the guests of the festival, the President’s delegation, as well as the State Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Education, Tome Antičić.

With the highly demanded evening lectures in the Alkar Court, the guest scientists in attendance will become the teachers in schools for the week, teaching classes on physics, biology, chemistry, Croatian, and country studies instead of their teachers.

A bonus to this year’s event is the organized scientific workshops for students where they will analyze the salt in water. For this workshop, ten students will be given an opportunity each day to participate in research work. All interested parties can register via e-mail [email protected].

On Thursday, October 19, 2017, in cooperation with the Mosor Observatory, everyone is welcome to examine the sky via telescopes. Ante Radonić will conduct the observation. On Friday, after the lecture, there will be ‘Evening of Chemistry’, and on Saturday, the public will have another chance to observe the sky at the festival’s end. There will also be a Science Quiz for high school students with valuable prizes (3000, 2000 and 1000 HRK).

“We invite you to come and see the newest in the world of science firsthand from the best scientists in Sinj, and together we can show that knowledge is our greatest value in the 21st century,” concluded the organizers.
