Who’s hungry for uštipak?
On Saturday, July 29, 2017, the Vrlika Tourist Board has organized the World Championships in Uštipak for the fourth consecutive year! The event will be held at Franjo Tuđman Square.
Your immediate question may be, “what is an uštipak?” but don’t worry, that is a question you’ll be more than happy to find the answer to.
An uštipak is best described as a fried bread. With a crunchy crust on the outside and a chewy dough on the inside, this bread goes with everything – from salty cheese to sweet sugar and honey.
Extremely popular in the Inland Dalmatia region, it’s no surprise that Vrlika would be lucky enough to host this famous fried dough world championship year after year. The gastro-event has thus become extremely important for the town and is designed to preserve and promote uštipak as a traditional product of the region.

The competition is set up so that contestants create their best uštipak on the spot for the jury to evaluate. After the evaluation and award ceremony, participants will move to the House of Culture for Poetry Readings to see the exhibition of Vlaho Bukovac from Split.
At 21:00, everyone will return to the square where they will be greeted with a music and entertainment program featuring the band Sinovi Hercegovine.
