The famous Split riva Cafe “Ćakula”, owned by Sasa Horvat, has closed it’s doors to visitors. Slobodna Dalmacija helps us dig into the details on January 2, 2017.
According to unofficial information, the favorite gathering place of many Split citizens will soon turn into a cocktail bar owned by Denis Vrvilo, owner of the uber popular nightclub “Vanilla”.
It seems that the reason Ćakula has closed was due to the expiration of a contract, one that Horvat did not wish to renew. Many passersby have noticed for some time now that Ćakula was not open to the public, inviting speculation about its closure and who would possibly take over – the opportunities are endless.
It has also been speculated that the new catering facility taking over Ćakula’s space should open by early April, and that the potential new cocktail bar will be named “Antique”.
Prime location for any new catering facility, we will have to wait and see, but today we say goodbye to another wonderful Split institution, a kavana loved by many, and one that truly told the story of a thriving coffee society in the city.
This is just one of many stories that show the rapid changes constantly ongoing in Split, and it will be interesting to see what 2017 has in store! Stay tuned for more information.
