One of the world’s largest hotel chains has confirmed their arrival to the Dalmatian capital.
Josip Komar, CEO of the “”Westgate Group”, has officially confirmed that the northern tower of the Westgate complex will soon host a prestigious “Marriott International” hotel. The hotel chain brings in an impressive 20 billion USD annually, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on March 31, 2017.
While Marriott is known to exclusively only open in the capital city when first entering a new country, the hotel chain has made an exception for Split, and the Dalmatian capital will soon boast the tallest building in the country.
“Negotiations have been quite long, but our partners have finally come to the conclusion that our city is the best destination for them today. We will be located in a building which, after construction, will be the tallest building in Croatia. We do not need to emphasize what this means for our city and as a boost for tourism promotion. We have just signed a pre-contract, and the final paperwork should be completed in two months after the local elections. We are waiting for the new mayor,” said Komar who also revealed the details of the hotel which should be ready for the beginning of the 2018 summer season.
“The hotel will be built on twenty-seven floors, while the twenty-eighth floor will be a new lookout point with a large terrace and sky bar which will provide a unique atmosphere for all guests. The facility will have 193 rooms, a large conference hall, a great spa area … and it will fall into the four-star category. The work is progressing perfectly, so there should not be any problems. What is also important is that the hotel should employ around 100 people, and tenders should be announced very soon,” he added.
The premises will cover an area of 55,000 square meters, and the south tower which boasts 13 floors and a height of 55 meters, has recently become home to 600 employees of Splitska Banka. The north tower was originally planned to be eighteen floors, but that number eventually increased to 27. The building will be 110 meters in height.
Under Marriott, there is a total of 30 hotel brands with approximately 5,700 facilities and 1.1 million rooms in more than 110 countries.
