Long lines for meals on campus have come to an end because today in the university dormitory “Dr. Franjo Tudjman”, a large restaurant with an area of 1500 square meters and more than 400 seats has opened.
A 7.2 million kuna investment financed by the Student Center and the budget of the Ministry of Science, the new luxurious university cafeteria was signed off by architects Emil Šverko and Neno Kezić, who decided on the industrial design. Drab and concrete pillars with interesting inscriptions such as “artichokes with broad beans” and “lamb with peas” follow the walls separating the coffers of parts for food, with orange chairs and signposts printed on the floors.
“This is the third cafeteria we opened this year, after the ‘Index’ in the city center and restaurants at the Medical School. On campus we have had a capacity of only 230 seats in the restaurant, which was not nearly enough for the number of students. Now we have these additional 400 places, plus a section for teachers and a VIP restaurant for guests of the University and for special occasions,” says Dell’Orco. The modern kitchen, which is spread over two floors, is 350 square meters.

The kitchen has a capacity of 4,500 meals a day, and yesterday’s menu had two soups, beef and asparagus, a side dish of stewed potatoes, with the main course of your choice of beef, chops or chicken on the grill and tortellini with cheese sauce with mushrooms for the vegetarians.
