The World Day of Blues Music Brings the 1st Ovčice Summer Blues Festival

Daniela Rogulj

What started as an initiative by Johnny Childs, world renowned blues musician, is now an annual event that takes place the first Saturday of August. International Blues Music Day has now found a home at Ovčice, where their first summer blues festival will take place.

In honor of International Blues Music Day and with the support of Croatian blues music forces, Ovčice has prepared a summer blues festival for the first time this year.

This two day program will host blues musicians from throughout the region and Europe, bringing you a blues experience you won’t want to miss.

The program on Friday, August 5th boasts Super Funk Sessions from Zagreb, formed by top musicians Toni Starešinić (keyboards and electronics), Željka Veverec (vocals), Đuro Dobranić (drums and electronics) and Igor Dorotić (trumpet). All members of the band were once members of the local funk soul jazz composition Mangroove.

Saturday, August 6, the actual International Blues Music Day, welcomes the legendary Luboš Bena and Bonzo Radvanyi from Slovakia. This award winning Slovakian blues duo has already made appearances at the Zagreb International Blues Festival, the Croatian Blues Challenge, and toured Croatia last year. This year they will be playing the Kastav Blues Festival and Ovčice Summer Blues Festival. Having won such titles as “bluesman of the year” and “most traveled blues musicians”, you won’t want to miss this.

Admission to the Ovčice Summer Blues Festival is free.
