Croatian Chamber of Commerce Presents 39 Guidelines for Reform at the „Employ Croatia“Conference
In cooperation with leading Croatian scientists and experts we have developed 39 guidelines, and their implementation could generate new jobs in a very short period of time. We expect the creators of our policies to accept these guidelines since they don’t have an ideological signature, their only signature is the economy since politics will not employ people but it must help, or at least stop limiting those who do employ“said the president of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Luka Burilović in his opening address during the „Employ Croatia“conference in Zagreb on November 2, 2015.
He added that, at the moment, 1 300 000 employed people in Croatia are feeding 4 200 000 inhabitants of Croatia. „According to estimations, only 750 000 people are employed in the real sector, and it doesn’t take a genius to realize that even the strongest back cannot take that kind of weight any longer“, Burilović said and added that all these calls for painful cuts keep repeating periodically and according to need while the deterioration of Croatian economy because of political inconsistency is the only consistent process.
End goal of this project, according to Burilović, is the society of equal opportunity and a well managed and developed system where individual’s work is the foundation of success.
President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović was also one of the key speakers at the conference: „ Unemployment is still very high, employment rates are low and our public debt is a growing problem which will keep escalating unless we reach an annual growth rate of at least 4%. Two years after we joined the EU, Croatia has recorded the highest rate of unemployment among the member countries, more than 15% which was recorded in August and the lowest employment rate of approximately 45% in the second trimester of 2015. It is time to stop talking about the potential and opportunities for Croatia and to start working. We have to finally create an environment where unemployed will be able to find work and which will convince our young people to stay and build their future in Croatia. We have to create the framework for a long term sustainable economic growth „ said President Grabar Kitarović.
President of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences Zvonko Kusić said that there is no easy fix or a quick solution that would rid us of our unemployment problem and that is the trap everyone keeps falling into: „We are missing the „work cult“, we need continuity and discipline in adhering to regulations regardless of which party is ruling the country. We need the continuity of thousands of small changes to feel the big change“said Kusić adding that the unemployment problem should not be isolated because unemployment is a part of every economy and that we need to change our mentality.
Project „Employ Croatia“was initiated by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences. Its goal is to create the proposal of the basic framework for the solution of structural disruptions in the work force and their effect on the society.
