Hotel Ambassador in a stunning location in the centre of Split gets a famous new owner, opening expected in early 2018.

The saga with the sale of hotel Ambasador is finally over. As reported by Poslovni.hr on April 20, 2016, this derelict hotel located in the heart of Split between the Riva and Zapadna obala was sold to none other than the heir to the Birkenstock shoe empire Klaus Alex Birkenstock.

This stunning hotel built back in 1937 was sold and resold a few times, and even though its reconstruction was announced more times than we can count, not even a doorknob was changed in the building over the last two decades, making this a real eyesore in one of the most beautiful seaside locations in Split.

International businessman Klaus Alex Birkenstock, who is currently living in Brela, bought the hotel and the entire company Retio from the widow of the legendary football coach Tomislav Ivić. Birkenstock also took over the finished design documentation for the future 4 star hotel whose reconstruction will commence this fall.

He will invest between 13,6 and 14,3 million Euros in the project. It is expected that construction works will be finalized in 18- 20 months and that the hotel will welcome its first guests in early 2018.
