Major investment in renewable energy resources.
Along the Benkovac-Karin Donji road, the first phase of construction of the Korlat wind farm is about to start. The total investment is worth around 80 million euros, reports Zadarski List on September 8, 2016.
“After the construction in completed, the Korlat Wind Farm will produce 63 megawatts of power. It will include 18 wind turbines of up to 3.5 megawatts”, said Mayor Branko Kutija. He added that, with the use of cutting edge technology, the wind farm would be constructed in accordance with the strictest environmental criteria. “Wind farms do not create a significant number of new jobs, but they do bring significant revenues to the town budget due to the annuity we receive for each wind farm”, said Kutija.
The wind farm will cover about ten square kilometres at an altitude of 270-340 metres. It will be built eight kilometres northwest of Benkovac, on the east side of state road Karin – Benkovac.
The electricity produced by the wind farm will be sold to the national electricity network. The 18 wind turbines will annually produce almost 200 GWh of electricity, which is enough “green energy” for nearly all 55,000 households in Zadar County. “The area where the wind farm is planned has the shape of an irregular rectangle, elongated in the northwest-southeast direction, with secured access to all parts of the site”, said Kutija.
Zadar County is among the leading Croatian counties by the number of wind farms. The total investments so far are worth over 200 million euros. “Along the Benkovac-Karin Donji road, on the northeast side, there is the ZD4 Wind Farm with 10 wind turbines which produces 27.2 megawatts of power”, said Kutija.
Wind farms Bruška, VEZD2 and VEZD3 are located near Bruška at about 600 metres above sea level. They consist of 16 wind turbines with the total output of 36.8 megawatts. “Wind farms are the preferred source of energy, since they do not consume fuel and do not pollute the environment. They help in the fight against global warming, since they do not produce any harmful greenhouse gases”, concluded Kutija.
