October 26, 2023 – Great news and even better announcements for Croatia come from Lonely Planet, one of the world’s leading travel platforms and specialized travel media. On its 50th anniversary, Lonely Planet published a list of the world’s 50 best destinations in five categories. And it listed Croatia among top 10 countries to visit in the year 2024.
“Lonely Planet’s selection confirms Croatia’s status as one of the best, and at the same time, most beautiful countries in the world, whose global visibility is increasing. Natural heritage, rich culture, kindness of people, but also strong drivers of progress in various aspects of tourism are the backbone of our offer, which is increasingly recognizable on a year-round level. I believe that our many guests have already convinced themselves of the attractiveness of the Croatian tourist offer and the commitment of the entire Croatian tourism sector, while future guests are only going be convinced of it,” said Kristjan Staničić, director of the Croatian Tourist Board, stressing the importance of sustainability in Croatia’s development. Another important aspect is the promotion of sustainable tourism as Croatia is recording an increase in the number of travellers who follow ecological trends.
Lonely Planet has described Croatia as a country of beautiful sun-drenched coasts, numerous islands and islets, challenging mountains, and historic cities. The description also highlights Croatia’s entry into the Schengen area, the opening of the Pelješac bridge, and other infrastructure projects. All of the above are just some of the descriptors for this beautiful country, thanks to which Croatia found itself in the company of the world’s top countries.
In addition to Croatia, countries such as Mongolia, India, Morocco, Chile, and Mexico found their place on the list. Other than the list of the best countries, lists of the best world destinations were also published in the categories of the best sustainable destination, the best city, the best region, and the destination category with the best value for money.
