February the 16th, 2025 – Four new luxury hotels are set to open their doors in Split, thus enhancing Croatia’s second largest city’s already enviable tourist offer.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, heavy southerly winds and strong winds are slowing down work on the much anticipated Marjan hotel on Split’s Zapadna Obala (West Coast), but the construction site remains busy.

“We have 150 people on the site and they’re doing reinforced concrete work, walls, the ground floor and the ground floor footing. The southerly winds have been hindering us, so the cranes aren’t currently in function,” said Tonći Šeparović, a representative of the contractor.

Weather conditions, the tunnel through Marjan that was closed for a month, and constant intrusions from the sea have affected the dynamics of the works. Despite all of those obstacles, this new hotel will, according to investors, be completed in 2026, writes HRT.

“These are all things that we expected to happen, that we reacted to in a timely manner, and that we will resolve in the future through increased activities. We’re currently in the process of revising the plan that will give us an answer to the question of when the final deadline for completing the work is, and we’ll try to find internal reserves to make up for everything,” pointed out Armando Vičić, project manager at the Adris Group.

By decision of the Split authorities, the construction site will also be open during the summer months.

“We didn’t prohibit construction during the summer, but what we suggested to everyone was that the work not disturb tourists and guests,” explained Ivica Puljak, the mayor of Split.

Construction will also take place this summer in four luxury hotels in Split: Accor’s debut in Žnjan, Villa Rossini in Bačvice and Ruzmarin in Trstenik, and all of them should have their doors open to visitors as early as next year.

But who will work in the four luxury hotels set to open in Split? Croatia has long been having labour force issues, and that has naturally has got people wondering how all this will be tackled in time for 2026.

“We give priority to workers from the wider region – Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia – because they know the language. That said, there’s also a very high-quality workforce from other third countries,” said Duška Žižak, director of the FortySeven agency.

With four new luxury hotels, it seems that the City of Split will sit at the very top of Croatia’s tourist offer next year.

Global recognition and popularity for both Split and Croatia as a whole are not waning. Voters from across the world picked Croatia as the number one country to visit in 2025 according to the Best Destinations Portal. This summer, according to current announcements, Croatia will be among the five most desirable destinations in the entire Mediterranean.
