Ericsson NT and Interior Ministry signed an agreement on implementation of a border monitoring system.

Ericsson Nikola Tesla, as the key members of a consortium which also includes Tehnomobil Securitas and Dat-Con, signed a contract with the Interior Ministry for the implementation of a border surveillance system. The value of the project is almost 48 million kuna, reports Poslovni.hr on November 19, 2016.

The implementation of the project will begin immediately, and the completion is planned for January 2017, said the company in a statement.

Interior Minister Vlaho Orepić said that the system would be used to monitor the so-called “green” border in Vukovar-Srijem County and Split-Dalmatia County. He added that the border surveillance system will enable monitoring of the border line itself and neighbouring areas in all weather conditions, which will be achieved by combining several connected detection systems.

“With this agreement, Croatia will be able to fulfil some of the prerequisites needed for entry into the Schengen Area, which will in the future allow our citizens easy movement without border controls within the member states of the European Union which are already members of the Schengen Area. It should be noted that the contracted works will be fully financed from the Schengen Facility Fund and will not bring any cost to Croatian citizens”, said Orepić.

He added that the realization of the project significantly contributed to increase in the effectiveness of supervision and protection of Croatian borders, which is another proof that it is not necessary to protect the borders with physical barriers and resources which exist outside the Interior Ministry.

Gordana Kovačević, the CEO of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, pointed out that the agreement on implementation of border surveillance solutions represented a strategically important project for her company. “We are pleased to continue our excellent cooperation with the Interior Ministry. Our expert teams, in cooperation with partners, are highly motivated and will immediately begin with the implementation of the project which will be concluded on time. This is a confirmation of our competences and expertise in this area of strategic importance for Croatia. At the same time, we will contribute to the wellbeing of our citizens”, said Kovačević.
