An incredible feat for the Zagreb club.
As a Hajduk fan, I struggle at times to write about our eternal rivals, Dinamo. But because we should always give credit where credit is due, we must tip our hats to Dinamo for an incredible feat this year.
Dinamo Zagreb, the current leaders of the Croatian First League with an outstanding 50 points and a 12-point lead ahead of my beloved Hajduk in second, remains the only undefeated team in Europe this season, reports Goal.hr on December 20, 2017.
To break it down, Dinamo are the only club in Europe who are undefeated this autumn despite having played 27 games since this summer! In December, Dinamo entered into the respectable company of Inter, Manchester City, PSG, and Valencia – but each of these prestigious clubs even suffered losses over the last few weeks. And because Anorthosis was defeated 0:3 by APOEL at home for their final match of 2017, Dinamo now takes the crown.
Since the beginning of the season, Dinamo has played 27 games (20 in the First League, four in Europe, and three in the Croatian Cup), and through all of that, Dinamo coach Mario Cvitanović has not known the feeling of a defeat for 160 days.
This number will grow, and fast, as the first official game for the Zagreb club won’t be played until February 10, 2018, meaning the boys in blue will then be 257 days without defeat.
Dinamo will also play in the semifinals of the Croatian Cup on February 28, 2018, against current title holders, Rijeka. Can they keep their winning streak?
