HNL Round 8 Recap: Rijeka Destroys Cibalia, Hajduk Loses to Osijek

Round 8 of the Croatian First League came to completion last night. Here is our round 8 recap. 

NK Istra 1961 – NK Slaven Belupo (1:0)

Istra secured their first win of the season after defeating Slaven Belupo on September 8, 2017, in Pula. 

Istra’s Hadzic scored in the 44th minute, and with no other goals scored in the second half, the game ended 1:0.

Rijeka v. Cibalia (7:0)

A complete blowout for Rijeka on September 9, 2017, as they defeated Cibalia 7:0 at Rujevica.

One goal by Gavranović, and two by Gorgon had Rijeka up 3:0 at the half. In the second half, Rijeka saw goals by Heber, Bradarić, Mišić, and Gorgan for the final score of 7:0.

Rijeka is currently in second place four points behind Dinamo.

Osijek v. Hajduk (2:1)

Osijek defeated Hajduk this weekend at Gradski Vrt for 2:1 on September 9, 2017.

After Hajduk’s Nižić took the lead in the 50th minute, Osijek equalized one minute later with a goal by Hajradinović for 1:1. 

In the 93rd minute, Osijek’s Grezda sealed the win for Osijek with 2:1.

Hajduk is currently in third place, just two points behind Rijeka, and Osijek lies in fourth place just one point behind Hajduk. 

Lokomotiva v. Inter Zaprešić (3:0)

Lokomotiva defeated Inter Zaprešić 3:0 at Kranjčevićeva on September 10, 2017, in the eighth round of the Croatian First League. 

While the first half remained 0:0, Lokomotiva defeated Inter in the second half when all three goals were scored by Radonjić, Ivanušec and Hujber.

Dinamo v. NK Rudeš (3:2)

Dinamo defeated Rudeš at Maksimir Stadium on September 10, 2017, in the eighth round of the Croatian First League. 

Goals by Dinamo’s Henriquez and Benković had them up 2:0, but in the 81st minute, Lulić scored for Rudeš for 2:1. Soudani came back with a goal for Dinamo in the 84th, and Budimir for Rudeš shocked Dinamo in the 89th after finding the back of the net. The final score was 3:2 for Dinamo.

Dinamo is currently in first place with 22 points.
