Jug Water Polo Team Best in Region for Third Consecutive Year!

Daniela Rogulj

The Dubrovnik team has once again confirmed their power in the region.

The Jug water polo team became the winners of the Adriatic Water Polo League after they celebrated against Zagreb’s HAVK Mladost 15: 8 (4: 1, 4: 2, 3: 3, 4: 2) in the grand finale in Dubrovnik. Jug has therefore finished their impressive season with all 20 wins: 18 in the league and two at the Final Four, reports Gol.hr on April 15, 2018.

The Dubrovnik team was expected to claim the championship title again, and after two quarters it was already 8:3 for Jug at the Gruž pool – a celebration could have even happened then.

Loren Fatović and Lorenzo Renzuto scored four goals, Maro Joković scored two, while Luke Loncar, Xavi Garcia, Viktor Rašović, Nikola Pavlicevic and Luka Stahor also led Jug to the victory.

For Mladost, three goals were scored by Pavo Marković, two by Andrija Bašić, one each for Cosmin Radu, Fran Paškvalin and Lovro Miloš.

Jug has made it to the final for the last ten league competitions to date. Last night, the team claimed their fourth title and third consecutive title in a row. This league was won three times by Rijeka Primorje, twice by Jadran from Herceg Novi and once by the Italian team Pro Recco.

The championship title in the women’s competition was won by the water polo players of Mladost who defeated Red Star 12:11 in the finals.

The Adriatic Water Polo League includes teams from Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Italy and was founded in 2008.
