Marin Brbić led Hajduk as the president for four years, from 2012 to 2016. He was remembered as the man who managed to save the club from bankruptcy during one of its toughest times. On Wednesday, Hajduk announced that Brbić would lead the club once again.

Marin Brbić is the new president of Hajduk! The Supervisory Board selected the 57-year-old at a public bid announced after Jasmin Huljaj revealed he would be leaving his post as president of Hajduk, reports Gol.hr on March 6, 2019.

“I would like to thank the Hajduk Supervisory Board for their trust. Hajduk is a football club whose mission is to bring joy and satisfaction to everyone who has the ‘white’ color in their heart. To preserve all the best in our people, the defiantly powerful. Hajduk is a value system, for Hajduk you do not cheer, but live. Because of all this, it is an extraordinary honor to re-engage this duty. I believe that since I was in this position for nearly four years and tried to stabilize this club, I am the only stable structure that can bring our club back to where it belongs,” said Marin Brbić before presenting his plans.

Brbić had already served as president of Hajduk, from July 2012 to April 2016. According to his profession, Brbić is a master of economics, and when he came to Hajduk six and a half years ago, he left his job in hotels where he worked for years. Back in 2012, Hajduk was in a sea of problems, a debt exceeding 100 million kuna, and a lot of unresolved court disputes.

In challenging circumstances, Brbić prevailed, the debt was gradually reduced, and during his mandate, Hajduk won their last trophy (Croatian Cup in 2013).

When Brbić takes over Huljaj’s throne, he will be met with a significantly different situation than in the summer of 2012. Hajduk has completely solved their debts and today is a consolidated and financially stable club, though they are chronically missing results. The team under the leadership of Siniša Oreščanin has done better in the second part of the season, but are still sixth in the rankings. By the end of the season, Hajduk must be at least fourth place to ensure qualifications for the Europa League.
