One Not So Ordinary Story About Football

Total Croatia News

In the time of Ronaldo and Messi, there are football players in lower levels of the game that deserve to be celebrated for skills even the best players in the world lack

There are so many skilled football players these days, and football lovers just have to turn the TV on to enjoy great shots, double passes, hard running, and beautiful games all around. There is one skill, or should we say quality, which can be found only on football pitches in little towns and lower level leagues, and as dalmatinskiportal.hr reported on March 22. 2016, this is where you will find the most honest football players.

It was a local match between Kamen Ivanbegovina and Hajduk II, guests from Split were leading 2-0 and after one corner kick, there was a handball which the referee did not see correctly and decided it was a penalty for the home team.

And then, home team player Marin Jonjić approached the referee and admitted he was actually the one handling the ball. He was congratulated by the ref and the opponent players alike. After the match, he said to the press that the world would be a much better place if we all tried to be more honest.

Marin Jonjić

Kamen lost this match, although Jonjić scored one goal after this event, and actually was rewarded one more penalty with a foul, but sometimes it is not all about the result. One can only wonder what would have happened if, for instance, Thierry Henry admitted he handled the ball against Ireland years ago? He was a great player, but one cannot avoid thinking he would have been remembered as a great sportsman, or even more – a hero.

Thank You, Mr. Jonjić. If one young player would pick him as his hero and prefer him over Ronaldo or Suarez, it would be a success.
