Runners and Nature Lovers, Rejoice! Krka National Park to Host First Ever Half Marathon

Daniela Rogulj

Kick those New Year’s resolutions into gear, you have a brand new half marathon to run this April!

The very first Krka Half Marathon is a new international sporting event that will take place on April 14, 2018, at Krka National Park. Croatia’s latest half-marathon will provide participants with an unusual running atmosphere in one of the most beautiful parts of Croatia – in a protected natural habitat with unique cultural and historical heritage, reports HRTurizam on January 16, 2018.

Runners will begin the race in the northern part of Krka National Park, at the Eco campus of Puljane, and run in the direction of Oklaj. From there, runners will descend to the river, along Brljansko Jezero, and up to the only climb of the run in the course of the Burnum amphitheater where participants will meet the finish line. As part of the Krka Half Marathon, two races will take place – the primary race which is 21,098 kilometers long, and a second less demanding race which is 5,5 kilometers long. The number of runners is limited to 500, or 250 participants per race.

“In recent years in Croatia, there has been a growing interest in running, and also to stay out in nature and the fresh air. This is how the idea of this sporting event came to be at National Park “Krka”. The race will be held in its northern part, which is lesser known to the public, but rich in whole nature and monuments that testify to the burning past of the region. The half marathon trail passes through interesting and beautiful parts of the park, crosses the Krka river and ends in a pearl of ancient architecture, the Roman amphitheater. It is not overly demanding and compliant with international rules on road racing,” emphasized NP Krka.

Apart from the unique running experience, each participant will receive a one-day ticket to visit the Krka National Park to make their experience complete. All information about the first Krka Half Marathon can be found at www.krka.run.

The new Krka Half Marathon is an excellent example of how to prolong the tourist season in Croatia, generating a unique and authentic experience for visiting guests.

The chief organizer of the event is the Athletic Club Maraton 2000 of Karlovac, while the co-organizer is the Athletic Club Šibenik.
