Dražen Silić has been chosen to carry the Croatian flag at the closing ceremony of the XXIII. Winter Olympics.
Dražen Silić, the pilot of the Croatian bobsled two and four-seater team, will carry the Croatian flag at the closing ceremony of the XXIII. Winter Olympics which will begin on Sunday in Pyeongchang at noon Croatia time, reports Gol.hr on February 24, 2018.
Who would carry the flag at the closing ceremony was decided at a meeting of members of the HOO Mission and the leaders of sports teams whose representatives still reside at the Olympic Village in Pyeongchang. In competition with Silić was Croatian luger Daria Obratov and cross-country skier Krešimir Crnković.
Of the three debutants at the Winter Olympics, the decision was ruled by the fact that Silić and his bobsled crew was the only candidate to qualify for direct placement into the Winter Olympics. Silić also competed in the Olympic Games in two separate disciplines – the two-seater and the four-seater bobsled. Silić will be the second Croatian bobsledder to carry the Croatian flag at the closing of the Winter Olympics.
Drazen Silić was born on May 25, 1985, in Pula. By profession, he is a kinesiologist who has been working as a physical education teacher with the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) in projects for elementary schools in Trieste and Udine. In addition to Croatian and Italian, Silić speaks fluent English and is also impressive in German. While in the winter he is dedicated to bobsledding, in the summer he devotes his life to sailing and enjoys being at sea as a skipper.
