Krka National Park will now limit the number of visitors at one of their most popular park destinations: Skradinski buk.
Director of the National Park (NP) Krka, Krešimir Šakić, announced yesterday that in an effort to preserve the nature of the park, a maximum of 10,000 visitors will be allowed to visit the famous Skradinski buk waterfalls at a time, repots Lokalni.hr on June 2, 2017.
Tourists who are visiting the park while the number of visitors has reached the new limit will be told to wait or be directed to other parts of the park that are less populated.
“While visitors wait to visit Skradinski buk, they will be able to visit instructive hiking trails and viewpoints and will be able to enjoy the sacred heritage of Krka. Another new feature this year is that we have implemented online reservations and ticket sales for Krka through the website Parkovi Hrvatske,” said Šakić.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy, Mario Šiljeg, stressed that these activities contribute to raising the quality of visitor management and the further development of the areas in which they are located.
“National and Nature Parks are one of Croatia’s strongest brands – recording 3.5 million visitors just last year. The months of July and August put the greatest pressure on the parks and it is crucial that the most visited parks take measures to ease the strain on the most attractive locations – something that is being done in Krka first,” said Šiljeg.
With the support of the Ministry, he added, Croatian parks will see 20 projects to improve visitor infrastructure, valued at about 770 million HRK. The projects are currently going through the phase of approval and will be co-financed with EU funds.
The Mayor of Šibenik-Knin County, Goran Pauk, pointed out that the county fully supports NP Krka in limiting the visitors at Skradinski buk – a great move because the sustainable development of the region is an absolute priority.
The newly elected Mayor of Skradin Antonia Brajkovic said that the measures to protect the natural phenomenon of NP Krka meet the civilizational order which was established in Krka 32 years ago when it was declared a National Park.
