Novmeber 24, 2017 – It has been a busy few days of flight announcement in Croatia – a roundup of the main headlines. 

Great news for Rijeka, which is gearing up of course to be the European City of Culture for 2020. ExYuAviation reports that Rijeka Airport, which is located on the island of Krk, is in negotiations with a European airline, believed to be Eurowings, to open a base at the island airport from 2019. Croatia’s Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Minister has said this will be preceeded with a 2.6 million euro investment in the airport. The Eurowings rumour was given credence earlier this year when Tourism Minister Cappelli said:

“If Rijeka offers agreeable terms, it will become a Eurowings base.” Read the full story here.

More good news for Brac, as another direct European flight to Croatia’s tallest island has been announced. Skywork will offer a weekly Saturday service from Bern to Zadar and on to Brac before returning to Switzerland. The flights will run from May 5 to October 13 – more info on Avioradar.

A new airline for Split, as Brussels Airlines will be offering a twice-weekly service from the Belgian capital, which will run from April 28 to October 6. The airline will also be increasing its service to Dubrovnik, while maintaining the same number of flights to Zagreb. Check the schedules to all three Croatian cities here.

Reaching Croatia from Japan just got a little easier with Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) introducing Zagreb as a new codeshare destination in cooperation with Lufthanse. the partnership will see Zagreb offered as a destination with onward flights to the Croatian capital from Munich and Frankfurt for flights from Osaka and Tokyo. ANA also operates direct seasonal charter flights to Dubrovnik. Click here for more details.
