The Telegraph Cites 14 Reasons to Visit Zadar

Following their latest article about Croatia in which they covered the growing problem of Dubrovnik getting suffocated by tourists, The Telegraph does its part in drawing attention to other stunning destinations on the coast. Titled ’14 reasons why you should visit Zadar, Croatia’s coolest city’, the article highlights some of the things worth seeing in this wonderful town in Northern Dalmatia.

To drive the point home, the first item on the list clearly cites enjoying Croatia without the crowds as one of Zadar’s advantages that first come to mind. “The southern stretch of Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is saturated with sunseekers in the summer months. Head north to Zadar, however, and you will find a region rich in history and natural beauty, which is still relatively undiscovered”, writes Natalie Paris of The Telegraph.

It’s an unwritten rule that you can’t talk about Zadar without mentioning its spectacular sunsets, as even the legendary director Alfred Hitchcock visited the city in 1964 and described it as having “the most beautiful sunset in the word”. Once the actual sun goes down, the artificial one lights up the night: the Monument to the Sun, a solar-powered installation located on the waterfront, attracts people with coloured light patterns. The Telegraph also cites the Sea Organ, another installation created by the same artist Nikola Bašić, that has sea waves passing through underwater pipes, resulting with hypnotising, haunting melodies.

Inland Dalmatia made its way to the article as well: national parks Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes and Krka get honorary mentions, described as “crammed between the crystal-clear Adriatic sea and the dusky Velebit mountains, offering hiking, rock-climbing and swimming in waterfalls”. The list goes on to feature a mixture of historical sites and music festivals in the wider Zadar area – as one commenter stated, “Lovely food, wine, weather and people. A lot to do for all ages and tastes.” A perfect destination!
