Below is a year old Facebook post by a German tourist who has visited the Istrian peninsula several times. It was posted as an answer to a question in a Facebook group. The question was. “What is there to see and do in Istria, apart from the beaches?” Below are the informative answers by Bernhard Siwek, who is also the author of the photos. The post has also been published by the phenomenal German-language Istria-themed website inistrien.de, where it has been viewed over 6,000 times.

We are always going to the Poreč area (this time the village Kadumi) and I can only recommend the area, many beaches are easily reachable by car. From there it takes a little over an hour to reach the Cape Kamenjak with its wonderful embayments, but there are also many other nice places to visit:

Motovun – town set at hilltop, wonderful view

Grožnjan – a small artist town

Novigrad, Umag, Poreč – wonderful small towns with fabulous sunsets; in Poreč the Euphrasius Basilika is UNESCO Heritage protected

Lim Fjord – boat trip, pirate restaurant

          Vodnjan – old mummies

Bale, Buzet – wonderful little old towns, the Subotina is a traditional local festivity

Rovinj – Batana Museum and afterwards a tour with the batana boat, Euphemia Church – beware of the steep way up to the church

Fažana – Konoba Batana – great food, visit to the Brijuni Islands

Pula – small colosseum, Zerostrasse – tunnel gallery

Rijeka (not part of Istria) – Maritime Museum, Peek&Poke toy store, collects toys and technic stuff – unique and unbeatable.

Siwek concluded the post with following statement: “And, and, and… each of the above places is quickly reachable. If you plan well, you can even see a lot more than what I have mentioned. It is harder to find a spot in Istria which is NOT interesting than the interesting ones.” Beat this as a recommendation Tripadvisor.
