April the 21st, 2024 – Zadar will host the 2027 European University Basketball Championship following a decision recently made in Portugal.
As Morski writes, at the session of the executive board of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) held on Friday in Aveiro, Portugal, the decision was made that Zadar will host the 2027 European University Basketball Championship.
“A couple of months ago, we submitted our candidacy for the organisation of the European University Basketball Championship in Zadar, and we recently received this phenomenal news from Portugal. This is a great recognition for the University of Zadar, the City of Zadar and for Croatia as a whole. We’re extremely honoured that EUSA, among all the candidate cities, awarded us the organisation of such a prestigious competition
From the 20th until the 30th of July 2027, the best European university men’s and women’s basketball teams will be in Zadar for a total of eleven days. The Krešimir Ćosić Hall in ŠC Višnjik has excellent conditions for organising such a big competition and we have enough time to prepare and organise it all at the very highest level,” Tonći Jerak, president of the Sports Academic Association of the University of Zadar said in conversation with Radio Zadar.
Jerak is also the vice-president of the Croatian Academic Association.
The European university basketball championships are otherwise organised every two years, and it is interesting that the host in 2025 is Bologna, which, much like Zadar, has a long university and sporting tradition.
