Lazareti is the place to be tonight!
Starting tonight at 21:00 at Lazareti, the Arcadia exhibition will be opened! As DuList reports, it is an exhibition of the inhabitants of both Split and Dubrovnik. The exhibitors also join the inhabitants of Dubrovnik with their photographs of life inside the city walls.
The exhibition presents amateur photographs taken from 2011, which visually follow the number of problems encountered by the community of residents of Diocletian’s palace – the disappearance of public space, the overlapping of functions and activities, communal chaos, problems with garbage, noise and insomnia during the summer months, as well as the void during winter where only a few tenants remain, with the beautiful ”backing music” of the sounds of construction machinery.
The Dubrovnik exhibition is a continuation of the same project which began this year and was visited by more than 5000 people. Along with a series of positive criticisms left by citizens during its time, the media widely characterised it as satirical, but also as a critic of the numerous negative effects of invasive tourism. In the continuation of the project, the exhibition will travel to other neighboring UNESCO-protected cities, where hosts will join in on the photography of the same theme, and the first of its kind is right here in Dubrovnik, one of the UNESCO cities facing very concerning issues due to unbridled tourism.
With regard to the interactive character of the exhibition, Dubrovnik residents (as well as other citizens) are called upon to offer their photographs taken from 2011 for the duration of the exhibition.
The idea of an exhibition in Dubrovnik, in the Gallery of the Island, is that the citizens of the City during their exhibition will bring their photographs of similar or very specific situations for Dubrovnik that will be placed on an empty gallery wall.
The exhibition opens on tonight, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 21:00, until July 13, 2017, and can be viewed every working day from 11:00 to 21:00 at Lazareti..
