Croatian Telekom and Dubrovnik sign a cooperation contract and open the first “smart street” in Croatia
Upon signing the cooperation project which positions Croatian Telecom as Dubrovnik’s strategic partner in the upcoming bid for the European Culture Capital 2020, mayor of Dubrovnik Andro Vlahušić and HT board president Davor Tomašković presented their pilot project, smart street located on Obala Stjepana Radića on March 21, 2016.
This pilot project was developed in cooperation with CISCO and local partners, it is worth over 1,5 million kuna and it is a part of a broad project Dubrovnik Smart City: “Dubrovnik is a world renowned tourist jewel, unique city-museum and with the Smart City project and Croatian Telekom as the main technology partner, Dubrovnik will also become a city of the future. We will proudly bring our local and international partners to Dubrovnik to present technological innovations and solutions that change and improve the quality of life. With this project we wish to show that HT is not only leading the way when it comes to technology but also when we talk about social changes in Croatia” said Davor Tomašković.
“Smart solutions that were applied in this street directly resolve problems our residents are facing every day such as traffic jams and constant search for a parking space. These solutions raise the quality of life in the city and also create significant energy and financial savings. We will continue to work with Croatian Telekom on the Smart City project in order to apply these solutions in the entire city” said Andro Vlahušić.
Technological foundation of the smart street is a CISCO open digital platform which can be upgraded, safe and can integrate a whole range of solutions and aplications. Smart street includes a public lighting system with a multi-functional sensor network with various access technologies from optic links and a 4G network to a Wi-Fi network which also all enable residents and visitors to use free high speed Wi-Fi.
It also includes a high tech trafic monitoring system that recognises traffic violations using cameras, and for the first time, new parking technology will automatically recognise any parked car and enable contacless parking payment through smartphone applications. Digital platforms will inform drivers, in real time, about the occupancy of parking spaces it the smart street and soon in the entire city of Dubrovnik.
