The idyllic photo of the Zlatni Rat beach on the island of Brač has been chosen by the National Geographic.
The National Geographic’s website regularly publishes a photo of the day, and its most recent selection is a photograph of the Zlatni Rat beach on the Croatian island of Brač, by photographer and Instagrammer Domagoj Sever, reports Večernji List on February 8, 2018.
The photographer says he is surprised by the news.
“I was surprised to hear that my photo of the Zlatni Rat beach was chosen as a photo of the day by the National Geographic website, because it was uploaded to my NatGeo profile on 20 September. I am delighted and proud that the editors were browsing my older photos as well since that means they found them interesting. The specific photo was taken on 30 July last year, in early dawn when the beach was empty. For this photo, I had returned to the Brač island for the second year in a row, because in 2016 I could not take any photos due to the bura wind which was too strong during the all three days of my stay on Brač. After the announcement by the National Geographic, the same photograph was published by numerous international web sites which cover tourism and related topics, and I am particularly pleased to be able to promote the beauties of Croatia,” says Sever.
The Zlatni Rat beach, whose name can be translated as Golden Cape, is located two kilometres west of the town of Bol. It extends southward into the Hvar Channel between the islands of Brač and Hvar. It is considered to be the most famous beach in Croatia and is regularly featured in promotional videos. The beach is over 600 metres long, but the shape and length of the land vary with regard to changes in tide, currents, and winds.
