15 years of laughter, tears, ups and downs, jokes, exhibitions, workshops, lectures, beers and spirits brings us to where Kocka is today. As an extension of their appreciation, the Coalition of Youth Association (Kocka) are closing another stellar season with a bang – and on May 21st, at 10pm, three bands across different musical genres will bring you through an audio adventure, and absolutely ensure your listening pleasure.
DJEČACI are a rap group from Split, and have been around since 2008. They have so far released three albums, DRAMA which came out in 2008 for CSR Records / Dancing Bear ( it also won the Golden Koogla for Album of the Year and INDEXI 09 First Prize for Hip Hop Album of the Year). The second album TRUTH came out in 2011 for Croatia Records. The first edition sold out in two days. They earned a nomination in the Porin for Best Hit with the single “LOVRINAC”. The third album FIRMA was released in 2015 and was also released on Croatia records.
ABOP, coming from Zagreb, has a name that says it all (ABOP essentially translates to “the after party is the better party”). The foremost audio-visual band on this list, ABOP comes complete with an instrumental ensemble full of effects, synths drums and a guitar that leaves you in an atmospheric dreamland. ABOP is created from top musicians throughout Croatia who like to call themselves “borrowed” from the better known national bands such as Elemental, Pips, Chips & Videoclips, Kries, Mayales, Sinestet and Pridjevi. In total there are six members: Erol (bass), John (drums), Levi (drums), Božanski (samples, synth), Tourette (synth) and Lo Peaks (mixing desk). The band has two drummers when playing live and share one set of drums, facing each other face to face!
PUNČKE hail from Vinkovaca/Novske, boasting 3 members Lucy (guitar / vocals), Ruby (drums) and Anja (bass guitar). Punčke combine different influences and create a different sound than what they used to play in their early beginnings. In late 2013, they released their debut album “Sunčano s povremenom naoblakom” (translating to “Sunny with Periodic Clouds”) which was a critically acclaimed album, finding itself on almost all Best Album lists of 2013. The album spawned four singles and even 4 music videos for the songs “Petra Pan”, “Prije spavanja”, “Iz dana u dan” and “Srce”. Punčke have so far completed over 200 concerts, many of which come from larger festivals like INMUSIC and Terranea.They were also the opening act for Queens of the Stone Age in Ljubljana and Zagreb. In the summer of 2014, Punčke appeared at Exit Festival and Sziget.
