I had forgotten just how lovely May can be in Jelsa.
Gorgeous weather, a smattering of tourists, the first souvenir shop planning on opening on the waterfront. The calm before the storm.
And wherever you walk, the feeling of awakening, the sight of cleaning and preparation, for the season is about to start. And every day as you walk around, more signs of awakening.
And an important one on Saturday, as Artichoke Wine Bar and Restaurant opens its doors daily for the season this Saturday. A great addition to the island gourmet scene, Artichoke is a great place to pop into if you are interested in learning more about the fascinating Hvar wine story, for it is the only restaurant on the island with a wide selection of Hvar wines by the glass.
It has also been an important focal point for locals during the long winter, with its lively and varied weekend programme breathing life into the dark winter nights.
Saturday’s opening will come with some special offers, and we will bring you them just as soon as we have them. Follow the Artichoke summer on Facebook, and take a tour of the opening night in this great video from Hvar TV below.
