Flos Olei 2017, the new edition of the annual catalog for the best olive oils (and also considered the olive oil “Bible”), has named Istria the best quality olive oil region in the world – for the second year in a row!
The competition of olive oils from around the world included a total of 1,800 oils, with only the 500 top quality olive oils making the Flos Olei printed version of the annual catalog. After last year’s success where 50 Istrian olive oils were included, this year among the 500 best in the world included as many as 61 olive oils from Istria, reports HRTurizam on 17 December 2016.
With a record 61 Istrian olive oils in the annual Flos Olei catalog, Istria is the most common listed olive oil region in the world, and therefore carries the title of best quality olive oil region in the world.

One of the most prominent olive oils that has been listed in the Flos Olei guide for years is Chiavalon Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Vodnjan. Named one of the fifteen best olive oils in the world, and a heavily awarded olive oil in Croatia, oil maker Sandi Chiavalon points out that this is a great recognition for Istria and an excellent branding for Istria as a region for high-quality olive oil.
“This is great recognition for Istria as a region, as well as for us olive oil makers. When one region is profiled as a region of high quality oils then olive oil becomes a motive and guests come for it. It is much better when a whole region is named rather than awarding best individual olive oils,” concluded Chiavalon.
Congrats, Istria!
