International Small Scene Theatre Festival Opening in Rijeka

The International Small Scene Theatre Festival is taking place in Rijeka from May 2nd to May 10th, reports Novi list on May 2nd, 2017. The festival begins today at 7.30 PM at the Croatian House of Culture in Sušak (HKD) with the play “Magic Evening” by the Theatre &TD from Zagreb, directed by Anica Tomić.

The HKD and the Croatian National Theatre Ivan Zajc will house nine acclaimed plays in total, representing a high league of first class performances from the region and from Europe, according to the festival selector Bojan Munjin. The festival will include guest performances by select theatres from Croatia, Serbia, Russia and Lithuania.

Two plays will be performed in the CNT Ivan Zajc: “The People of Vax”, a production by the CNT Zagreb directed by Janusz Kica, and Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” by the Yugoslav Drama Theatre in Belgrade, directed by Aleksandar Popovski.

The remaining six plays will be performed in the HKD: “Hinkemann” by the ZKM Theatre from Zagreb (dir. Igor Vuk Torbica), Chekhov’s “The Seagull” by the Vilnius City Theatre from Lithuania (dir. Oskaras Koršunovas), “Bridge on the Drina” by Novi Sad Theatre from Serbia (dir. Kokan Mladenović), “How’s Life” by the independent Moruzgva Theatre from Zagreb (dir. Ivan Leo Lemo), Chekhov’s “Ivanov” by the National Theatre from Belgrade (dir. Tanja Mandić Rigonat), and Beckett’s “Endgame” by the Theatre Okolo from Moscow (dir. Aleksej Levinski).

During the festival, the atrium in the HKD will house a guest exhibition from the Belgrade City Museum titled “Ivo Andrić: a writer and/or a diplomat”. The exhibition was first organised in 2011 in Belgrade, marking the 50th anniversary of Andrić being rewarded the Nobel Prize for literature.
