June the 15th, 2026 – Proizd isn’t a name you’ll hear often, but this uninhabited Croatian island was named one of the globe’s most gorgeous. All those who visit it say it really does have its own very special energy.
As Putni kofer writes, Croatia has no shortage of famous islands. In fact, there are 1000+ of them (depending on who you ask), but one tiny islet near the popular Korčula continues to surprise visitors with something much harder to find – genuinely untouched beauty. Those are meaningless buzzwords we’ve become used to hearing in the context of tourism, but in this case, they really do ring true.
the home of some of the adriatic’s best swimming locations

Just off the western coast of Korčula, near Vela Luka, sits Proizd. It’s a small, totally uninhabited and wild island known for its crystal-clear turquoise sea, white rocks, dense Mediterranean pine forests, and some of the most impressive swimming locations in the entire Adriatic.
Despite its tiny size, Proizd has built a reputation far beyond the bounds of Croatia.
This island has been recognised by travel publications and visitors alike for its unusual landscape, where bright white stone meets deep blue water, creating a scene that feels more like a tropical destination than a Dalmatian island.
The secret behind Proizd and its roaring success is that almost nothing is there. There are no hotels, no roads, and no permanent residents. Instead, visitors come for swimming, snorkelling, walking through Mediterranean vegetation, and escaping the crowds found on larger tourist destinations.
the bili bok coves…

The island’s most famous spots are the Bili Bok coves on the northern side. These white rocky beaches and natural swimming platforms are famous for their incredible water clarity and dramatic contrast between the pale stone and the Adriatic’s turquoise shades.
Proizd is usually reached by a taxi boat from Vela Luka, with the short trip taking visitors from one of Korčula’s main coastal towns to a completely different atmosphere, one without traffic, crowds, or the noise of modern life. The island is small enough to explore on foot, with paths connecting different bays and viewpoints. Visitors can spend the day moving between hidden swimming spots, shaded pine areas, and rocky terraces overlooking the sea.
There is also a seasonal beach restaurant near the main landing area, but Proizd remains primarily a nature destination rather than a developed resort. Its popularity, however, brings a familiar Croatian challenge. As more travellers search for hidden Adriatic gems up and down Croatia’s irregular and indented coastline, protecting the very qualities that make places like Proizd special becomes increasingly important.
dalmatia as it once was, and not so long ago

The island’s appeal comes exactly from what it does not have.
No large buildings, no busy streets, and no mass tourism infrastructure. In fact, there’s no tourism infrastructure whatsoever on Proizd, and it’s a time capsule directly back to what Croatia’s islands used to be, not so long ago.
