Split Saying Goodbye to Legendary Kino Central with Free Movies

Total Croatia News

Your last chance to see a movie in the cult movie theatre in the centre of Split before it turns into a night club

This is certainly an end of an era. One of the oldest and largest movie theatres in the centre of Split, Kino Central is officially closing its doors. But it is going out in style. Company Ekran d.o.o. which manages the movie theatre is organising free movie screenings on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 of all current movie hits including “The Little Prince” (16:30), Hunger Games Mockingjay part 2 (18:30) and Bridge of Spies (21:00).

Everyone wishing to say goodbye to the movie theatre has to pick up a ticket before each show, and since this will indeed be the very last Kino Central ticket you will ever hold in your hand, you will probably want to keep it as a souvenir of the good old days when our life was not concentrated about gigantic shopping malls and movieplexes.

As reported by Ivica Profaca for Dalmatinski Portal, many renowned movie lovers from Split are saying their farewells on Facebook, artist Ante Kuštre wrote:

“I saw my last movie in Kino Central last night, Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. Last projection is on Wednesday at 21:00. Come Thursday, that movie theatre will exist only in our memory. And that is why, all of us true movie buffs will gather on Wednesday at noon and stand in line in front of the theatre, just like we used to when we were waiting to get our tickets. Back then, lines were long and sold out theatre was a regular occurrence not only in Kino Central but in all other movie theatres in Split as well. There was a special atmosphere and since I was a movie critic in those days, I remember writing THE ONLY THING SADDER THAN AN EMPTY MOVIE THEATRE IS AN EMPTY BED.

So I am calling all movie-nostalgic to join us in this farewell performance! And as of tomorrow we will start a new Facebook page Kino Central where you will be able to share your memories from Kino Central. The movie theatre may not be there in few days but our memories will remain.

Lets give a proper sendoff to the place that was the pillar of urban lifestyle in Split for the last 70 years!”
