January the 27th, 2025 – Following the success of the most recently staged Croatian retail boycott, another is being planned. The effect of which will hopefully be even greater.
Spiralling prices and the fact that Croatia now has the highest inflation rate in the entire Eurozone have finally seen the public say they’ve had enough. The senseless prices seen for basic products across Croatia have been the topic of conversation and media headlines for many months now, with even Croatian products somehow being sold cheaper in other countries than in their own country of origin.
The 24th of January saw a Croatian retail boycott, and the Tax Administration recently released its latest data, showing the effect it had. That effect was significant, and even saw some retailer finally lower their prices in response. It seems that with the ball now firmly in motion, things can’t be shelved. A second, larger Croatian retail boycott is now in the works.

As Medjimurske Novine/Mislav Herman reports, The Facebook page Halo inspectore/Hello, Inspector has now announced that a new, larger Croatian retail boycott is scheduled for this coming Friday.
“We’ve finally heard what the retailers themselves, those who form the final price of the products sold to the consumer, have to say about the recent boycott. Because the final price of the product is what the consumer sees and has to pay. It’s the only thing the consumer can react to in the entire chain of participants in creating the price [of a product] from the manufacturer to the shelf.
The Croatian consumer reacted with a boycott. And now the retailers have reacted to that boycott.
The representative of the retail chains within the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP), Mirko Budimir, conveyed the key message of the retailers to all consumers the day after the boycott: “We’re going to continue to work as we did before and this alleged boycott will not change anything.” There you go, dear consumers, the retailers are giving us the finger and using their representative to do so.
The Croatian retail boycott in which consumers were united in a joint reaction to insufferable and unprecedented price increases for one entire – the boycott which halved the turnover and profits of retailers – hasn’t made a particular impression on the retailers. They say they’ll continue just like they did before and don’t plan to change anything in their pricing policy. Given that this is the opinion of the retailers, we’d like to inform the retailers that we’ve heard and understood their message. This is our response: Another Friday, another boycott!

Next Friday, we’re going to boycott all stores once again. We’re going to be even stronger, and we’re going to send out an even louder message.
We aren’t giving up on boycotting individual retail chains. We aren’t going to give up on boycotting certain drastically increased products. This statement from the retailer representatives who conveyed their position to us deserves a comprehensive response – a boycott of all stores like never before.
It seems that the retail sector still isn’t quite getting it, so let’s repeat it once again for them by boycotting all stores nationwide for one entire day. Are you up to the challenge?
All of the details will be known by 12:00 today (January the 27th, 2025). We’re united in our troubles!”
