Poll: Majority Expects Zoran Milanović to Form New Government

Political parties are forming coalitions and voters will go to the polls in less than two months. Nova TV conducted a poll on 9 July about voter’s preferences for the next Prime Minister, reports dnevnik.hr on July 14, 2016.

Asked whom they would like to become the next Prime Minister, 27.8 percent of respondents chose SDP president Zoran Milanović. He is followed by Andrej Plenković (HDZ) who enjoys the support of 20.4 percent of voters. The third place belongs to Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić with the support of 13.5 percent of voters who want him as Prime Minister. Current Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković is supported by 12.7 percent of voters, while MOST leader Božo Petrov has the support of 7.6 percent of voters.

On the question who they expected would form the new government, as much as 58 percent of respondents said they expected Zoran Milanović to become the new Prime Minister. About 29 percent of voters expect that Andrej Plenković will be the next Prime Minister. Among HDZ voters, 66 percent think that Plenković has a better chance to form the government, while Milanović is at 19 percent. Among SDP voters, 87 percent think that Milanović is more likely to become the next Prime Minister, and just 6 percent expect that Plenković has a better chance. Finally, among MOST voters, 66 percent of them think that Milanović will become Prime Minister again.

As far as personal impressions about politicians are concerned, the first place belongs to current Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, about whom 59 percent of respondents have positive impression, while 31 percent have negative impression. Andrej Plenković is second (51-17), Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić third (51-44), Božo Petrov fourth (48-43), and Zoran Milanović fifth (45-52).

Among HDZ voters, Tihomir Oreškovic is most well-liked with 69 percent of respondents saying they have positive impression about him, followed by Andrej Plenković (67) and Milan Bandić (63). With SDP voters, Zoran Milanović is first (86 percent), followed by Andrej Plenković (52) and Tihomir Orešković (52). Among MOST voters, Božo Petrov and Tihomir Orešković are the most popular (67 percent), followed by Andrej Plenković (54) and Zoran Milanović (46).
