ZAGREB, February 14, 2018 – The US position on the Slovenian-Croatian border dispute remains unchanged, the US ambassador to Slovenia, Brent Hartley, said in Ljubljana on Tuesday after talks with Parliament Speaker Milan Brglez about the situation in the Balkans, among other things.
The US is neutral in that dispute and does not take sides, but it encourages the two states to seek a solution, Hartley said, adding that the US was committed to good relations with both Slovenia and Croatia, members of the European Union and allies in NATO.
Resolving the dispute would be good not only for Ljubljana-Zagreb relations but for resolving outstanding issues in the Balkans, Hartley said.
Brglez said Slovenia would like clearer US support for its position that the border arbitration ruling should be implemented and that it was a matter of the rule of law.
