Daniela Rogulj

Croatian gymnast Robert Seligman (32) won the silver medal at the European Championship in Glasgow, while another Croatian representative, Filip Ude (32), finished in sixth place in the same discipline.

In the pommel horse discipline, Seligman performed his routine without any major mistakes and scored 14,866 points. 19-year-old Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan was the only one better than Seligman, and with 15,300 points, convincingly won the gold. Slovenian gymnast Sašo Bertoncelj (34) also won the silver alongside Seligman as he was given an identical initial score and identical rating for his performance of the exercise, reports Gol.hr on August 12, 2018.

This is Seligman’s second medal in his European Championship career, as the Osijek gymnast won the bronze in Lausanne ten years ago.

Filip Ude, Croatia’s other representative in the pommel horse final, did not perform his exercise as well as in the qualifiers, threw out one heavy element and thus lowered his initial score from 6.1 to 5.5. Even though he made no major mistakes in his performance, Ude’s final score was 14,000, which was not enough for a place on the podium.

The hometown favorite, current world champion and Olympic winner on the pommel horse, Max Whitlock performed poorly and finished with 14,000 points in seventh place.
