Petra Martić and Donna Vekić advanced to the 2nd round of a very strong WTA tournament in Rome, after having no serious problems against Ukraine’s Lesia Viktorivna Tsurenko and Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro.

Croatia’s best female tennis player Petra Martić will play in the 2nd round of the WTA tennis tournament in Rome, after finishing off Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko 6:1, 6:2 after an hour and 36 minutes of play. Not much later, Donna Vekić achieved the same result and was better than Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro to secure a place in round two,, reports Gol.hr on May 14, 2018.

Martić took the Ukrainian tennis player’s service immediately after the start of the first set, and thus gained an advantage she refused to give up, despite a fairly equal game in every set. In the match, Martić’s rival took the service four times, and Martić did not lose hers once, although Tsurenko had a chance six times.

Both players served two aces, the Ukrainian had two double faults, and Martić ultimately finished with 22 points more. Martić was better at the first and second service, scoring 73 and 68 percent, as opposed to Tsurenko who achieved 49 and 55 percent.

This was the first match between the two and first win of Martić’s against Tsurenko, who is 37th on the WTA ranking.

In the second round, the Croatian tennis player will face another Ukrainian, Eine Svitolina, the fourth best tennis player in the world. The two have met three times, and Martić has celebrated only once.

We can determine that Martić has already achieved her career-best ranking with this result. Martić is currently the 33rd best female player in the world, which is in two places better than her previous best result on the WTA rankings.

Donna Vekić has placed into the top 50 (49th place) with her victory and is now only four places away from equalizing her best career ranking. Donna achieved an identical result to Martić, and with a lot of fight and good play, celebrated against Spain’s great Suarez Navarro.

The Osijek tennis player will meet Madison Keys in the 2nd round tomorrow.
