The day after the qualifying match against Finland, the Executive Committee of the Croatian Football Federation announced that the leadership of the team would be taken over by Zlatko Dalić, reports HNS on October 7, 2017.

The Executive Board of the Croatian Football Association unanimously decided to end their cooperation with the former Croatian National team coach Ante Čačić after the not so positive results of the football team’s qualification for the World Cup in Russia next year.

Zlatko Dalić is the former coach of Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates, and former strategist of NK Varteks Varaždin, Rijeka, Slaven Belupo, FC Dinamo Tirana, Al-Faisaly Harmah, Al-Hilal. Dalić is also a longtime member of the Croatian U-21 team.

After finishing 1:1 against Finland, Croatia takes second place in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers. With a positive result in Ukraine, Croatia must try to win at least a place in the playoffs among the eight best second-placed teams. Iceland leads the group with two points ahead of Croatia.

Dalić will take over the national team on Saturday and will travel to Kiev with a team of experts.
